Like his father, Edward was recognized by the college for his long term of service from 1902-1963. He worked beside his father from 1902 until Dwight retired in 1931. After studying pharmaceuticals at the University of Maine and then graduating with the Amherst College class of 1909, Edward married Florence Dymond of Bangor, Maine and lived in the house with their four children. Edward was, for many years, custodian at the Phi Delta Theta (later Phi Delta Sigma) fraternity. Mr. Newport was a member of Hope Congregational Church. The house was owned after Edward’s death by his brother Ralph. Published on Mar 9, 2022. Last updated on Apr 8, 2022.
